"Horizons has taught me to believe in who I am. I will keep pursuing my education and always have confidence in myself." Horizons student

Horizons students attend a 6-week summer program on the campus of an independent school, college, or university, and receive additional support throughout the year. In small classes led by professional teachers, students dive into a rich curriculum with a focus on reading, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), and art. Swimming and other confidence-boosting activities break down barriers to success and expose children to new opportunities. At Horizons sites serving Bridgeport students, throughout the school year, Saturday Academy provides academic and social continuity while reinforcing the student-Horizons relationship. The program also assists students in navigating high school and college through a combination of year-round tutoring, mentoring, and one-on-one college counseling. Children join Horizons the summer before Kindergarten and return to the program each year through 12th grade, building lasting relationships with their teachers and peers, and developing life skills essential for success.

Horizons at Greens Farms Academy (HGFA) and Horizons at Sacred Heart University (HSHU), with support from Horizons National and Social Venture Partners CT, are collaborating to establish Horizons Bridgeport. This Initiative will scale the current efforts of the individual programs by working collaboratively to share best practices, optimize economics, fund raise, and measure outcomes. Their goal is to provide 1,000 Bridgeport students with the Horizons opportunity through current program expansion and two additional sites. Their hope is for their students to develop strong academic, social emotional skills, habits of mind and the resilience to succeed in school and pursue a meaningful, choice filled life.
